According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of Arak Municipality, Saray-e Rastin (Saray-e Now) is the latest and newest building that was constructed in the final years of the Qajar dynasty in 1295 solar year by Haj Mirza Mohammad Ali Khan, the grandfather of Sheikh Mohammad Rastin, in two stories with a gabled roof, trusses, and a wooden structure. In recent years, despite being close to the bazaar entrance and having architectural appeal, it had unfortunately been turned into a storage place for new and used goods. The Historical Fabric Municipality has begun removing the obstruction from the passageway and restoring it. Due to the presence of a sewage well and an outdated sewage network, moisture up to a height of 2 meters had damaged the walls. By constructing a moisture drainage channel around the perimeter of the saray floor, the problem was resolved, the deteriorated walls were demolished and rebuilt, and the remaining surfaces were sanded and repointed. Given the complete deterioration of the roof’s corrugated sheet, which over time had caused water to seep into the wooden beams and deteriorate them, the required sheet has been purchased, and the restoration of the structure and its beautiful wooden porch, as well as the complete replacement of the roof sheets, is on the municipality’s agenda. The shortage of skilled workers in accordance with the previous pattern is among the existing problems. Completing the roofing of Haj Bashi, Aghaei, and Nozari sarays; paving the bazaar passages, one of which was carried out last year, the Agha Zia al-Din passage was completed this year, and the Molla Qasem passage is currently underway; and, with the participation of the municipality and the electricity department, the overhead network and power poles have been removed. In the continuation, three more passages will also be paved and the poles removed. The construction of six restroom units at Sepahdari School, sanding and cleaning of the bazaar corridor roof, and also the signing of a contract for the restoration and strengthening of Akbariyan Saray are among the actions taken and are on the agenda for the restoration and reconstruction of Arak’s historic bazaar within the Historical Fabric Organization’s domain.
